Calibration
What is Offset Calibration?
To help improve the accuracy of the volume measurements in your tank, you can calibrate your volume settings from your FINCH II display. This calibration process, Offset Calibration, is usually performed near a full load to help ensure spill prevention.
Offset Calibration Overview
Your actual tank construction might not match the strapping table that was programmed inside SensorLink, Titan Logix's programming software, and performing Offset Calibration will help improve the accuracy of the volume measurement. The Offset Calibration feature is used mainly to compensate for small discrepancies in the volume displayed on your FINCH Display, due to potential mechanical or strapping table discrepancies. If you are noticing large discrepancies, those would not be able to be addressed through this option.
This can be checked by loading a premeasured amount of liquid into the tank, then checking to see if the displayed value matches or is close to what is in the tank. If adjustments are required, you need to first put your system in Offset Calibration Mode. This is where the display volume can be adjusted by using the up or down arrows on your FINCH to match the actual loaded volume in your tank.
Important
The error cannot exceed 2.5% of the tank capacity, or there is a high probability the system will not allow the adjustment. If there are discrepancies greater than 2.5% with the displayed values, then the parameters and/or the strapping table programmed into the transmitter are incorrect, or the TD100 transmitter may be defective. Do not try to Offset Calibrate until the error is corrected — instead, power your system off and back on to reset it and return it to normal level measurements.
Performing Offset Calibration
Depending on which Titan Logix display you have, the Offset Calibration steps differ slightly. Refer to the guide below for your display:
Offset Calibration Features
A common use for invoking the CAL feature is to clear alarms that are stuck on the display, such as SPILL. This happens when SPILL is displayed and there is no product in the tank, or when the liquid level is below the SPILL alarm level. If the liquid level in the tank is at or above the SPILL alarm level, it is necessary to unload product until the level is brought low enough for the SPILL alarm to clear.
Offset Calibration Mode: In some cases, simply entering Offset Calibration Mode — without calibrating your volume settings — will adjust your system back to normal level measurements.
