Probe Installation

Probe Installation

The Titan Dual Rod Probe gives you the power to monitor the buildup of solids or other materials. This technology is designed for high-viscosity and unprocessed fluids, such as crude oil and waste fluids.

Step 1: Install 1 inch NPT top fitting and anchor cone Step 2: Cut probe and install Step 3: Offset measurement calculations

Probe Location

When mounting the top fitting, make sure the location has at least 6” clearance from the nearest obstruction. Keep in mind that a 1 3/4” wrench needs to be used to install your Probe and Transmitter. The image above shows the three steps of probe placement.

Step 1: Installing the Top Fitting/Anchor Cone

Prerequisite

If the top fitting and anchor cone have already been installed by the manufacturer, go to Step 2: Offset Measurement Calculations (Page 9).

Note: Top fittings exceeding these measurements will interfere with the RADAR signal, which can cause false level alarms.

  • Drill a hole on the top of the tank. This is indicated by the manufacturing or installation drawings.
  • Measure the thickness of your tank. This value is required when programming your TD100 Transmitter.

Tip: The tank manufacturer also includes the tank thickness on a tank plate attached to the tank if you are unable to get this measurement.

  • Ensure the top fitting position allows the probe to hang vertically in the tank and directly above the anchor cone.
  • Weld the 1” NPT top fitting to the tank top.

Step 2: Installing the Probe

Cutting the Probe

The Titan Logix's probes are shipped longer than required to fit all installations.

  1. Measure the height of your tank from the bottom of the tank, inside the anchor cone, to the top edge of the 1” NPT top fitting.
  2. Then, measure the length of your probe, starting at the top of the collar to the bottom of the cone/bracket.
  3. To determine where to cut the probe is based on the type of probe you are installing. Mark where to cut your Dual Rod Probe based on the following formula: Tank height + 1.5”.
  4. Cut the probe to the appropriate length based on your probe type.
