RS232 Integration on FINCH II-W/6W Displays

The FINCH II-W and FINCH II-6W Displays, launched in May 2023, come equipped with a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and WiFi expansion card. This card enables the FINCH to connect seamlessly with mobile applications, significantly enhancing Titan’s overfill protection and level measurement capabilities.

Additionally, the FINCH II-W/6W displays feature an RS232 serial port, allowing connections to other hardware on the truck, such as a programmable logic controller (PLC) or a meter register.

It is essential to understand that the FINCH II-W/6W can only transmit data using one connection method at a time. When both BLE/WiFi and RS232 are available, the system prioritizes the BLE/WiFi connection.

If you prefer to utilize the RS232 connection, you will need to remove the BLE/WiFi expansion card.

Removing your BLE/Wi-Fi card:

1.  Open the FINCH IIW/6W enclosure by loosen the two screws at the top of the display.

The BLE/WIFI expansion card is circled in the image below. This expansion card is located in the same location for both FINCH II-W and FINCH II-6W circuit boards.

2.  Carefully unscrew the two screws located at the top of the expansion card to detach it. Make sure to also take out the accompanying lock washers.

3.  Gently lift the BLE/Wi-Fi expansion card vertically from the underlying circuit board. It is important to lift it straight up without tilting to avoid damaging the connectors.

4.  Place the screws, washers, and the card away for safekeeping.

5.  Secure the display enclosure by tightening the two screws that you loosened in the first step.
