What is Pulse Width?
The pulse width determines how long each output pulse stays on. The default setting of 0.15 ms is designed to meet the needs of most applications. However, adjusting the pulse width can be helpful if your receiving equipment, such as a PLC, is not properly detecting or responding to the signal. Increasing the pulse width can improve the reliability of pulse detection and ensure accurate triggering.
How to Set the Output Pulse Width:
- Enter Pulse Width Setting
- Press the SEL DIG (Select Digit) button until the Pulse Width LED is displayed.
- The 7-segment display will show the current pulse width value.
- Adjust the Pulse Width
- Use the INC DIG (Increment) button to select the desired pulse width:
- 0: Rate Alarm
- 1: 0.15 ms (default)
- 2: 25 ms
- 3: 100 ms
- 4: 500 ms
- 5: 1 second
- Use the INC DIG (Increment) button to select the desired pulse width:
- Save the Pulse Width
- Once the correct value is displayed, press and hold both the SEL DIG and INC DIG buttons for 5 seconds.
- The display will count down from three, and the new setting will be saved. The SFT 881 will then resume normal operation.
When Should You Change the Pulse Width?
- Default (0.15 ms): Suitable for most applications.
- Change Pulse Width: If your signal is being measured at the output but not triggering your PLC input correctly, try increasing the pulse width. Adjusting the pulse width can help ensure all pulses are detected by the receiving equipment, improving system accuracy.
Always consult the specifications of your PLC or other receiving devices to determine the most appropriate setting.
