Engine Kill for Overfill and Spill Prevention

About this Application Note

This application note addresses the need for a reliable and cost-effective onboard overfill prevention system using the TD80 or TD100 and FINCH II Display. The method presented is for Emergency Shutdown (ESD) of the truck engine, providing power to the onboard loading pump through a PTO. It applies to a wide range of tankers, from single-compartment body tank trucks to multi-compartment B-Train units.

The engine kill circuit provides overfill protection only when a TD80 or TD100 transmitter and FINCH II display are installed and programmed correctly.

This circuit is intended to be easily installed by trained and qualified installers for new and retrofit systems. The engine kill circuit must be installed according to the application note TPM-031.

Refer to the TD100 Installation and Operation Manual and FINCH II Installation and Operation Manual for the level gauging system installation, programming and test details.

All references to TD80 in the installation diagrams apply to the TD100 transmitter.

The Finch II Relay Map Utility referenced in Figure 5-6 has been replaced by the Sensorlink software. The relay settings remain the same as before.
